Upcoming photo contest deadlines

Hearst 8x10 - no fee! All entries must be emailed between the dates of January 4, 2010 and May 31, 2010 Hearst 8x10 Photography Biennial is a competition to identify and promote new and emerging talent among photographers in the United States and abroad. Eight (8) winners, chosen every other year, will: Showcase selected works in an exhibition under the title, "8x10" in the Alexey Brodovitch Gallery and the Hearst Gallery at Hearst Tower in New York City. Be published in the accompanying "8x10" catalog and on www.hearst.com and www.hearst8x10.com.

THE 2010 CANTEEN AWARDS IN PHOTOGRAPHY - Fee: $15 (you will receive a single copy of Canteen) or a subscription to Canteen. Deadline February 28 2010.

Work derived from all traditional and digital photographic processes, as well as mixed-media work that is primarily photo-based, will be considered. Projects that have been published in book format with a photographic publishing house or a university press are not eligible for the competition. All themes are acceptable, but keep in mind that Canteen is an art publication—so we’re not really looking for adorable pictures of your kittens wearing matching sweaters.

The call: In BED we mate, procreate, communi- cate, masticate, investigate, commiserate, elucidate, migrate, hibernate, masturbate, prevaricate, procrastinate, educate, hallucinate, ruminate.  We all have BED but it’s mostly hidden away in a remote room upstairs  in our houses or in the back room of our apartments. BED is rarely discussed, is mostly taken for granted, yet we use it more than anything else in the house, spending perhaps one third of our lifetime there.

Eligibility:  The exhibition is open to all photographers, any format, any camera, black & white or color, any style acceptable.  All types of photography-based work may be entered, including digital, alternative processes, photo collage and montage.  Maximum finished print size is 16”x20”. Maximum frame size is 20”x24”.
