Profile: Thomas Hoeffgen
In between international fashion and advertising shoots, Thomas Hoeffgen has been photographing soccer fields in Africa for the past ten years. On a shoot in Nigeria in 1999, the country’s incredible passion for soccer and their players struck Thomas. Matches are played on improvised playing fields and sandy lots in cities and suburbs across Africa. He continued this project, photographing arenas, players, and audiences in Nigeria, Nambia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, and Lagos.
Thomas first came to Dot Editions for drum scans, and then to print his large scale prints. African Arenas is being published as a fine art photography book, accompanied by an exhibition in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, April 30–June 2, 2010.
