Christina Kruse in "The Common Mind"
Christina Kruse came to Dot Editions for a special project of works on paper that combines silkscreen prints with photographs. The pieces of paper were first painstakingly silk screened with a grid pattern, on pieces of paper that range from 94” by 42” to 13” by 9”. Then the paper was brought to Dot Editions for archival pigment printing. The photographic images were of body parts that needed to be perfectly registered with the grid patterns, which required a bit of problem solving, a lot of measuring, and some crossing of fingers. The paper was then selectively folded and lacquered by Christina, transforming them into sculptural collages.
Dot Editions also printed two of Christina’s newest self-portraits, which she framed in antique frames.
The works on paper and photographs will be in a four-woman exhibition at the Cueto Project NY, titled “the Common Mind”, which opens on Thursday June 25 2009, from 6-8pm, and also features Elinor Milchan, Tatyana Murray, and Eve Bailey.
